Minister Bats for Oil Seeds Growth
12/09/2014 (Times of India) - Union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh on Thursday chaired the first meeting of executive committee on National Mission on Oilseeds and Oil Palm (NMOP). He informed that export of oilseeds constitutes largest component in agriculture sector. During 2012-13 foreign exchange worth Rs 23,681 crore was earned from export of oilseeds which stood at 63 lakh tonnes. This included 48.56 lakh tonnes of oil cakes, 9 lakh tonnes oilseeds and 6 lakh tonnes of oil.

12/09/2014 (Newswire Today) - Mr. Chris de Lavigne, Global Vice President, Consulting, Frost & Sullivan said that the average consumption of vegetable oils at 19 kg/ capita in China and 14 kg/ capita in India remains well below that of the West that stands at ~65 kg/ capita, thus China and India offering further upside in the food segment which accounts for the bulk of palm demand.

Edible Oils Mixed on Ample Supply
12/09/2014 (Hindu Business Line) - Edible oils prices were mixed on the back of ample supply on Thursday. Indigenous groundnut, sunflower and rapeseed oil gained ₹15, ₹2 and ₹7 for 10 kg each respectively. Imported soya oil, palmolein and cotton refined oil declined by ₹2, ₹2 and ₹3 each. Continuous weakness in domestic currency and firm palm oil futures markets lifted the sentiment and volume higher.

Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports
12/03/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 102,515 tonnes of cargo comprising 82,882 tonnes of import cargo and 19,633 tonnes of export cargo including 3,218 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 82,882 tonnes comprised of 42,504 tonnes of containerised cargo; 37,137 tonnes of bulk cargo: 20,885 tonnes of coal; 6,911 tonnes of DAP; 1,545 tonnes of rape seed and 3,241 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
