Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

12/03/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 102,515 tonnes of cargo comprising 82,882 tonnes of import cargo and 19,633 tonnes of export cargo including 3,218 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 82,882 tonnes comprised of 42,504 tonnes of containerised cargo; 37,137 tonnes of bulk cargo: 20,885 tonnes of coal; 6,911 tonnes of DAP; 1,545 tonnes of rape seed and 3,241 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 19,633 tonnes comprised of 18,218 tonnes of containerised cargo; 15 tonnes of general cargo and 1,400 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,218 containers comprising 1,969 containers import and 1,249 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 399 of 20's and 776 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 9 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 119 of 20's and 106 of 40's loaded containers while 220 of 20's and 349 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely Philadelphia, DL Clover, El Gurdabia, Neelambari and Star Mistral carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were five vessels viz. MOL Direction, Pona, Hanjin Indigo, Neelambari and Ikan Siakap carrying containers, oil tanker and coal currently at the berths.

There are four ships namely Hanjin Indigo, MOL Direction, Kota Karim and Atlas Explorer carrying containers and oil tanker respectively expected to sail on Thursday. There were two vessels viz. Fortune Glory XLI and Promise-1 carrying oil tanker and steel respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while six vessels viz. Ever Radiant, Northern Guild, APL Guangzhou, MT Quetta, Tradewind and FPMC P Glory carrying containers, oil tankers and mogas respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 85,661 tonnes comprising 47,152 tonnes of import cargo and 38,509 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,775 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 47,152 tonnes includes 950 tonnes of rape seed; 750 tonnes of general cargo; 15,010 tonnes of coal; 7,103 tonnes of chemical and 23,294 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 38,509 tonnes includes 9,078 tonnes of cement and 29,431 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 2,775 containers comprising 1,226 containers import and 1,549 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. There were four ships namely CV MSC Deira, CV Safmarine Ngami, MV Ince Ilgaz and MV Industrial Sailor with containers, rape seed and general cargo sailed out sea on Wednesday morning, while another ship namely MV Georglanna Bo with cement is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eight vessels viz. CV MSC Deira, CV Alliance Norfolk, CV Safmarine Ngami, MV Georglanna Bo, MV Industrial Sailor, MV Ince Ilgaz, MT Atlantic Glory and MV DL Dahlia currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, rape seed, general cargo, chemical and coal respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as six ships namely CMA CGM Straus, Mega Lohari, MT Lito, Frede Rike Selmer, Ever Mighty and Al-Soor-II with containers, rape seed, wheat, coal and diesel oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were five vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Straus, CV Maersk Hartford, MT Mega Lohari, MT Al-Soor-II and MT Sea Harvest carrying containers, rape seed, diesel oil and palm oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, FAP Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal, and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There are two ships namely CV Spirit of Mumbai and CV New Deldi Express with containers due to arrive on Wednesday.
