Activity at Karachi & Qasim Ports
28/11/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 108,532 tonnes of cargo comprising 75,695 tonnes of import cargo and 32,837 tonnes of export cargo including 2,692 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 75,695 tonnes comprised of 14,977 tonnes of containerised cargo; 20,146 tonnes of general cargo; 21,072 tonnes of bulk cargo: 12,600 tonnes of coal; 8,472 tonnes of soyabean meal and 19,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

China's Detergent Chemicals Imports Remain Strong Despite Market Constraints

However, the Asian market suffered a setback at the end of last year following the impact of Typhoon Yolanda, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded. The typhoon caused a series of facility outages in Southeast Asia, including a shutdown at a major Chinese manufacturing plant, driving volatility in Palm Kernel Oil (PKO), a chemical predominantly used in the production of laundry detergent.
