28/11/2014 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 108,532 tonnes of cargo comprising 75,695 tonnes of import cargo and 32,837 tonnes of export cargo including 2,692 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 75,695 tonnes comprised of 14,977 tonnes of containerised cargo; 20,146 tonnes of general cargo; 21,072 tonnes of bulk cargo: 12,600 tonnes of coal; 8,472 tonnes of soyabean meal and 19,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 32,837 tonnes comprised of 20,079 tonnes of containerised cargo; 380 tonnes of general cargo; 3,215 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2.229 tonnes of cement; 986 tonnes of rice and 9,163 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 2,692 containers comprising 1,350 containers import and 1,342 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 341 of 20's and 397 of 40's loaded while 179 of 20's and 18 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 585 of 20's and 290 of 40's loaded containers while 25 of 20's and 76 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely Wan Hai-172, X-Press Kailash, MT Lahore, Daebo Shanghai and Bedford Castle carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. PAC Aries, Philadelphia, Kota Kaya, AS Ophelia, BW Kronborg, Eleni D, and Ikan Salmon carrying containers, oil tankers, rice and coal respectively currently at the berths.
There was one ship namely Maersk Messina carrying oil tanker sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while three ships namely Philadelphia, BW Kronborg and Dato Success carrying containers, oil tanker and steel respectively are expected to sail on Thursday. There was one vessels viz. AS Carelia carrying containers due to arrive on Wednesday, while six vessels viz. APL Chicago, X-Press Euphrates, COSCO Kobe, Iris Victoria, Ocean Flower and Dragon Glory carrying containers, mogas, DAP and steel respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 113,268 tonnes comprising 72,448 tonnes of import cargo and 40,820 export cargo inclusive 3,145 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The total import cargo of 72,448 tonnes includes 24,720 tonnes of furnace oil; 7,910 tonnes of palm oil; 6,945 tonnes of rapeseeds; 5,000 tonnes of chemical and 27,873 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 40,820 tonnes includes 8,938 tonnes of cement and 31,882 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,145 containers comprising 1,467 containers import and 1,678 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
There were three ships namely CV Al Bahia, MT Ji Xiang and MT Karachi with containers and oil tankers sailed out sea on Wednesday morning, while another ship namely CV Sealand Washington carrying containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of eight vessels viz. CV Al Bahia, CV Sealand Washington, CV Safmarine Ngami, MV Grand Pioneer, MV Ocean Lion, MV Chemroad Rose, MT MT Ji Xiang and MT Karachi currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, sunflower seeds, chemical, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as four ships namely CMA CGM Maussant, Verginia, Torm Clara and Al-Soor-II with containers, wheat crude oil and diesel oil at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were four vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Maussant, CV Maersk Chicago, MT Torm Clara and MT LPG Nisyros with containers, crude oil and LPG expected to took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There are five ships namely CV Hugo Schulte, CV OOCL Kobe, MT AS Olivia, MT Al Mahfozah and MT Prosperity with containers, project cargo, furnace oil and edible oil due to arrive on Thursday.
