Indonesian, Malaysian Schools Closed By Toxic Haze

Thousands of schools in Malaysia and Indonesia were ordered shut Thursday amidst concerns about air quality. More than 1.7 million students have been sent home in response to toxic haze, a by-product of the forest fires that have been raging across the islands of Borneo and Sumatra since early last week.

CPO futures to trade in profit-taking mode next week

KUALA LUMPUR: The crude palm oil (CPO) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives is likely to trade in a profit-taking mode of between RM2,020 and RM2,080 per tonne next week, said a dealer. Interband Group of Companies senior trader Jim Teh said market sentiment was affected by US-China trade war and last week’s attacks on Saudi Arabian oil facilities.

JAKARTA: A palm oil industry group is investigating if fires in Indonesia and Malaysia causing hazardous smog that is now wreathing Southeast Asia are on plantations owned by its members, and will take action against them, it said on Friday.
