Better management can raise oil palm yields
Friday February 11, 2005 - OIL palm planters can increase their yields toup to five tonnes a hectare annually compared to the current four tonnesby implementing better management practices, said Malaysian Palm OilAssociation (MPOA) chief executive M.R. Chandran.

Rotterdam port to house Europe's top palm oil plan
AMSTERDAM, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Oils producer Loders Croklaan has startedconstruction of what is expected to be Europe's largest palm refinery atthe port of Rotterdam, the firm and port officials said on Tuesday.The plant will process 2,500 to 3,000 tonnes of crude palm oil a day andbecome operational in the last quarter of this year, Loders Croklaan saidon its website.

Russia increased imports of tropical oils in Decem
02/09/2005 14:59 - Imports of palm oil to Russia continue to increase.According to official data, in December 2004 the country imported 71,000tonnes of this product, which is 50 percent more than in November andtwice as much as in December 2003. Totally, since the start of marketingyear (September) till the end of December Russia exported 48 percent morepalm oil than it had done over the same period of past MY (209,000 tonnesin Sep.-Dec. 2004).

2/7/05 - Oilmandi - THE Finance Ministry's decision on January 31 not toreduce the tariff values on imported edible oils, contrary to generalexpectations, seems to have been prompted mainly by revenueconsiderations.An indication of this is that the Central Board of Excise and Customs(CBEC) had, on January 13, actually approved a reduction in the tariffvalues for the entire palm oil complex.
