Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports

02/09/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 143,492 tonnes of cargo comprising 125,266 tonnes of import cargo and 18,226 tonnes of export cargo including 5,794 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 125,266 tonnes comprised 46,783 tonnes of containerised cargo; 26,655 tonnes of bulk cargo and 51,828 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

Crude palm oil, Orange Pakistan, Indonesia to Enjoy Mutual Benefits of Trade

02/09/2013 (Business Recorder) - Indonesia will see its crude palm oil (CPO) exports to Pakistan freed from import duty starting on Sunday, as the two countries have signed a preferential treatment agreement (PTA) on bilateral trade. In exchange, Indonesia will open its main port, Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta, for Pakistan's Kinnow oranges.

Scare Over Imported Food Commodities

02/09/2013 (Times of India) - Better fill your food basket with desi items. The falling rupee has led to a spike in the prices of imported food items which is likely to reflect in retail prices in local shops. Traders who sell imported food commodities such as palm oil, sunflower oil, almonds and pulses say the rise in prices of these items in the last two weeks have been significant. "Though the price of these imported commodities has witnessed a steady increase in the past one year, the impact of the falling rupee on prices has been significant in past two weeks," says A Prabakar, president, Coimbatore Maligai Vyabarigal Sangam.
