FAO Vegetable Oil Price Index in February reaches highest level since June 2022

17/03/2026 (Oils and Fats International Magazine) - Global vegetable oil prices rose in February driven by higher prices of palm, soyabean and rapeseed oils, more than offsetting lower sunflower oil quotations, according to the benchmark United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Food Price Index (FFPI) released on 6 March.

China’s palm oil import costs have increased sharply

17/03/2026 (Ukr Agro Consult) - According to the National Data Center for Grain and Material Reserves, international CNF quotations and palm oil import prices in China rose significantly this week. On March 11, CNF import prices for 24-degree palm oil for March and April shipments were $1,187/tonne and $1,178/tonne, respectively, up $65-$81/tonne from the same period last week. This equates to a port tax of RMB 9,790/tonne and RMB 9,710/tonne in South China, up RMB 610-730/tonne from the same period last week.

Palm oil prices are rising

17/03/2026 (Ukr Agro Consult) - According to David Ng, a trader at Iceberg X in Kuala Lumpur, palm oil prices rose amid stronger crude prices and higher export forecasts. The market expects increased exports due to the recent conflict in the Middle East, which is forcing importers to secure supplies amid uncertainty, as well as price discounts on palm oil, he adds.

16/03/2026 (Asia News Network), Dhaka - The apparent shortage of soyabean and palm edible oils in kitchen markets and retail shops across the country, which has pushed edible oil prices above maximum retail prices, appears opportunistic in light of the Middle East war and Ramadan-Eid festival period. According to media reports, the commerce ministry claims that the country has sufficient stock of edible oil, while domestic refiners say they are regularly supplying the usual quantities. Therefore, there should be neither a shortage nor a shortage-induced price hike.
