Indonesia has postponed indefinitely the application of new rules that would limit shipments of coal and palm oil exports to only national shipping companies, a Coordinating Economic Ministry official said on Tuesday.

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A researcher from Center for Southeast Asian Studies Kyoto University of Japan, Prof. Kosuke Mizuno, has said Indonesia should expand its palm oil downstream industry to increase the contribution of the palm oil sector to the country`s economy.

Palm oil has the potential to be processed into bio-energy, acting head of the Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI) Prof Bambang Subiyanto said here on Tuesday.

The regional parliament of Geneva in Switzerland has passed a resolution to exclude palm oil from free-trade talks with Indonesia and Malaysia. Five other Swiss cantons have approved similar measures.
