KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Sarawak government will object to any restriction on the expansion of oil palm plantations on native customary land (NCL).

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian palm oil futures rose to a two-month high on Tuesday evening, charting a third straight session of gains, as the Malaysian ringgit and the Indonesian rupiah weakened and related edible oils moved higher.

KUALA LUMPUR: Three top executives at palm oil producer FGV Holdings left the company at the end of August, in a management shake-up at the world’s largest crude palm oil producer, three sources familiar with the company operations said.

Between 1990 and 2013, global production of palm oil more than quadrupled, rising from 14.5 million tons to 67.3 million tons. And that number is expected to be 128.20 million tons by 2022, making the global palm oil industry worth $88 billion. This comes, however, with irreversible damage to the environment — Palm oil acreage worldwide increased from 15 million acres in 1990 to more than 46 million acres in 2014, mostly concentrated in tropical forests. And all of us contribute to this damage on a daily basis just by buying daily essentials that contain palm oil like bread, shampoo, soaps, ice cream, and chocolate.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia should conduct research for plants that can be nurtured and grown to become successful industries, similar to palm oil and rubber, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pix).

Palm oil on the European vegetable oils market was little changed on Friday due to lack of direction from the Malaysian palm oil futures market, which was closed for a public holiday. Asking prices for palm oil were between unchanged and $2.50 a tonne down lower because of weaker CBOT soyaoil futures and because of a stronger dollar, which weighs on products priced in that currency.

Jakarta, Sept 4 (ANTARA News) - Amid the current account deficit, the government and private sector work hand in hand to expand the export market of palm oil by sending trade mission delegations to Pakistan.

New Delhi, Sep 4 Crude palm oil prices went up by 1.01 per cent to Rs 606.80 per 10 kg in futures trade today as speculators widened their positions amid firm demand at the spot market.
