Massive beach clean-up operation

GEORGE TOWN, May 18 - A massive operation is under way to clean up the40 tonnes of fatty alcohol that leaked from a palm oil factory into thesea off the Butterworth deepwater wharf yesterday.Nearly 100 Palmco Oil Mill Sdn Bhd employees, state Department ofEnvironment staff and fishermen have been working since late yesterdaymorning to remove the ice-like substance.

Edible oil imports rise 21 per cent

Mumbai , May 17 - THE country's import of edible oils for the November2004 - April 2005 period was higher by 21 per cent at 21,95,770 tonnes,compared to 18,15,630 tonnes during the same period the previous year,according to data compiled by the Solvent Extractors' Association ofIndia.

Indonesia's Mmil to Build Cpo Factory in Bengkulu

JAKARTA, May 17 Asia Pulse - PT Muko Muko Indah Lestari (MMIL) said itwill build a crude palm oil (CPO) factory and an oil palm plantation inthe district of Muko Muko, Bengkulu.An executive of the regional office of the Capital Investment CoordinatingBoard Suparman said the company has set aside Rp87.3 billion (US$9million) for the project.
