The increasing world population and demand opens up vast potential for palm oil suppliers to explore new markets, but some areas need to be improved to smoothen the whole supply chain and better facilitate purchases by countries or companies.

PETALING JAYA: Central Asia and sub-Saharan Africa represent key growth areas for the expansion of palm oil businesses, as both offer unique opportunities for local players and investors, say palm oil experts.

Palm oil is mainly used as cooking oil in developing countries and as an ingredient in food products, detergents, cosmetics, and biofuels. Palm oil production has long been associated with deforestation in the most biodiverse places on earth. Governments, organizations, and charities have embarked on campaigns to promote alternatives to palm oil, in addition to regulatory enforcement and certifications to ensure a long-term sustainable production of palm oil and ecological protection.

NEW DELHI, Dec 15 — India imported 333,383 tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO) from Malaysia in November, representing about 56 per cent of its total CPO imports, according to latest industry data.

FGV Transport Services Sdn Bhd (FGV Transport), a subsidiary of FGV Holdings Berhad (FGV) has received halal logistics certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) for 76 tanker trucks operating at its Pasir Gudang depot in Johor. KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 - Malaysian palm oil futures eased on Tuesday as rival soybean oil and crude declined, although expectations of better exports during the first half of December put a floor under prices.

China’s General Administration of Customs reported at its monthly briefing on Nov. 30 that it has now completed the requisite plant and animal quarantine protocols for agricultural produce under the phase 1 trade agreement between China and the U.S. At the briefing, Zhao Zenglian, head of the GAC’s Department of Animal and Plant Quarantine, announced that all 37 relevant tasks had been completed on time and to a high standard.

India's palm oil imports fell 8% on year in November to their lowest in five months, as a rally in the price of the tropical oil made soyoil more attractive for refiners, a leading trade body said on Tuesday.
