Activity at Karachi and Qasim ports

09/01/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 101,862 tonnes of cargo comprising 77,208 tonnes of import cargo and 24,654 tonnes of export cargo including 3,615 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 77,208 tonnes comprised of 28,451 tonnes of containerised cargo; 11,757 tonnes of coal and 37,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 24,654 tonnes comprised of 17,759 tonnes of containerised cargo; 965 tonnes of general cargo; 5,230 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,837 tonnes of rice; 3,393 tonnes of cement and 700 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

Three ships namely Emirates Yangtze, Cap George and Daewoo Diamond with two container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Three vessels viz Emirates Yangtze, Cap George and MT Karachi with two container ships and one crude oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths.

A petrol tanker namely UACC Sound sailed out to sea on Friday, while three ships namely ID Tide, Safina-2 and MT Karachi carrying one coal carrier, one rice carrier and one crude oil tanker respectively are expected to sail on Saturday.

Five vessels viz APL Sydney, Al-Ihsaa, OOCL Dalian, Ashahda and Lodestar Genesis carrying three container ships, one crude oil tanker and one chemicals carrier respectively due to arrive on Friday, while five vessels viz Athena, Kota Azam, Maria Princess, Purwati and Yvonne carrying two container ships, one LSF oil tanker, one chemicals carrier and one coal carrier respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 130,373 tonnes, comprising 97,827 tonnes of import cargo and 32,546 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 4,236 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 97,827 tonnes includes 700 tonnes of furnace oil; 44,225 tonnes of diesel oil; 9,245 tonnes of palm oil; 8,349 tonnes of canola seeds; 2,893 tonnes of chemicals and 32,415 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 32,546 tonnes includes 2,348 tonnes of cement and 30,198 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Three ships namely CV CMA CGM Bellini, MT Quetta and MT STX Knight sailed out to sea on Thursday afternoon, while two more ships namely MV Nicoline Maersk and MV Safmarine Nagami expected to sail on Friday morning.

A total number of ten vessels MV Hiba Al-Noor-B, MV Safmarine Nagami, MV APL Chile, CV CMA CGM Belini, CV Nicoline Maersk, MT Quetta, MT Leader, MT SC Shantuo, MT Pearl Bulker and MT STX Knight are currently occupying berths to load/offload cement, containers, palm oil, furnace oil, canola seeds and chemicals respectively during last 24 hours.

A furnace oil tanker namely MT Fair Spirit is currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

One chemicals carrier MT North Contender due to arrive on Friday.
