Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports
29/12/2011 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 108,277 tonnes of cargo comprising 68,749 tonnes of import cargo and 39,528 tonnes of export cargo including 3,440 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Wednesday.
The total import cargo of 68,749 tonnes comprised of 14,507 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,778 tonne of general cargo; 15,264 tonnes of bulk cargo: 14,200 tonnes of coal; 333 tonnes of seeds; 1,064 tonnes of soyabean meal and 37,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 39,528 tonnes comprised of 29,561 tonnes of containerised cargo; 550 tonnes of general cargo; 8,417 tonnes of bulk cargo: 5,281 tonnes of cement; 3,136 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 1,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
Five ships namely Al-Mirqab, APL Pearl, Al-Saada, Berthea and Aashman with two container ships, one oil tanker, one molasses carrier and one coal carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
Six vessels viz APL Pearl, Oriental Marguerite, MT Karachi, Zhong Ren 1600, De Shan and Fantastic with one container ships, two oil tankers, one general cargo ship, one tug and one bulk cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.
Three ships namely STX Patraikos, Oriental Marguerite and Fujisan Maru with one container ships, one oil tanker and one cement carrier sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while two ships namely MT Karachi and Fantastic carrying one oil tanker and one bulk cargo ship respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.
Six vessels viz Glen Canyon Bridge, Taban-1, Emirates Wasl, Helsiki, Bengal Orghid and Al-Shuwaikh carrying four container ships, one chemicals carrier and one livestock carrier respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while five vessels viz Lara Rickmers, APL Brisbane, YM Fuzhou, Navig 8 Loucas and Calveston carrying three container ships, one mogas carrier and one coal carrier respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 78,269 tonnes, comprising 45,866 tonnes of import cargo and 32,403 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,889 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Tuesday.
The total import cargo of 45,866 tonnes includes 375 tonnes of diesel oil; 6,100 tonnes of palm oil; 6,908 tonnes of sunflower seeds; 812 tonnes of project cargo; 356 tonnes of bitumen; 3,049 tonnes of chemicals and 28,266 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo includes 32,403 tonnes of containerised cargo.
Two container ships namely CV Hanjin Malta and CV Maersk Kalamata sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while two more ships namely CV MSC Natalia and MT Golden Ambrosia are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of nine vessels CV Maersk Kalamata, CV Hanjin Malta, CV MSC Natalia, MV Asphalt Merchant, MV Pancaldo, MV Pangani, MV Voge Enterprise, MT Golden Ambrosia and MT Chemroute Sky are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, project cargo, sunflower seeds, chemicals and palm oil respectively during last 24 hours.
As many as three ships namely MSC Sena, Pearl Bulker and Kei with containers, canola seeds and palm oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
A total number of two vessels viz CV MSC Sena and CV CMA CGM Puccini carrying containers are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Wednesday.
One container ship namely CV ACX Marguerite due to arrive on Wednesday, while two more container ships namely CV Safmarine Nagami and CV Nacoline Maersk are due to arrive on Thursday.
As many as three vessels viz CV Dubai Express, CV MSC Anafi and MT Quetta with two container ships and one furnace oil tanker are also expected to arrive at Port Qasim.
