HONIARA, April 26 Asia Pulse - A group of chiefs in the Solomon Islands isthreatening to seek legal action against the Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) signed between Guadalcanal Resource Development Association and theBritain Palm Oil Company.

Representative of the Ghaobata House of Chiefs, Eric Ata said the chiefsopposed the signing because members of the Guadalcanal ResourceDevelopment Association (GRDA) are not the rightful owners of the land onGuadalcanal Plains."We are filing a case at the high court so that the court can ratify newtrustees who are the original landowners and rule for the resigning of theMOU between the company and the new trustees.

"We want this clarified so that the company know who are the right peopleto deal with and not to waste their money on those who are only secondaryor tertiary landowners," chief Ata said.

He said the Ghaobata House of Chiefs represents 80 per cent of the primarylandowners in the Guadalcanal Plains.

"This does not mean that we don't want the company, in fact the companycan go ahead anytime but what we want to ensure is for the company to dealwith the right people.
