Emami To Set Up Oil Refinery In Andhra
22/07/2011 (Times of India) - Emami Biotech, a group company of Emami Ltd, is planning to set up an oil processing unit at Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh at an investment of Rs 200 crore.
The plant, which has a capacity of 1,200 tonnes of oil per day, would be operational by next month. Emami has another processing unit at Haldia, West Bengal, and would be doubling its capacity to 2,000 tonnes a day with the new plant. The Krishnapatnam refinery would produce refined palm and sunflower oil.
"We would also be setting up a unit in western India which would produce palm, soyabean and groundnut oil," Manish Goenka, director, Emami Group of Companies, said. The investment for the new unit would be Rs 250 crore with a capacity of 1,500 tonnes.
Emami is now strengthening its presence in Tamil Nadu with a distribution network of 12,000 retailers and 85 distributors. "TN is expected to contribute about 15% of the target of Healthy &Tasty ," Goenka said. Last year, the company's turnover was Rs 1,500 crore, of which its Healthy& Tasty brand of edible oil accounted for Rs 300 crore.
