Palm Oil Project To Create 3,000 Jobs
11/04/2011 (Awoko) - Parliament yesterday ratified a Memorandum of Understanding and agreement between the Government of Sierra Leone, Gold Tree (S.L) Limited and Gold Tree Holdings for a ten-year Palm Oil Project which is geared towards creating up to 3,000 jobs upon its implementation.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Richard Conteh in stating the nature of the agreement, said that the much needed agreement will not only create jobs but it will also facilitate the bringing of investment up to 40 million dollars to Sierra Leone, and will also lead to the production of palm oil for local consumption.
The out grower scheme, he went on, will support up to 8,000 small holder families, and that within the framework of the corporate social responsibilities, funds are being allocated to ensure that more required development are provided by the target communities.
Members of Parliament from both the Majority and Minority, gave their views on the importance of the agreement bearing in mind the developmental trend the process intends to take, especially to the growth of the agricultural sector.
