JAKARTA, July 26 Asia Pulse - The government has been urged to establishoil plantations to supply crude palm oil to be processed into biodieseloil as an alternative fuel.

An executive of the Board of Technology Studies and Application (BPPT)Sony Solistia Wirawan said if the country is to develop and producebiodiesel, a special oil palm plantations should be built to guaranteesupply of CPO feedstock.

The idea of producing biodiesel as an alternative fuel surfaced after thecountry suffered a crisis in oil fuel supply recently and the government'scall to use alternative fuels.

Indonesia is the second largest producer of palm oil in the world afterMalaysia and its CPO production is growing fast from year to year.

Development of biodiesel is included in the blue print of the NationalEnergy Industry Development from 2005 to 2020.
