Samples of hazardous palm oil sent for laboratory test
29/09/2008 (Regional Times), Karachi - Special team of health department, on the directives of Sindh Heath Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed, Sunday visited Port Qasim Authority and took the samples of hazardous palm oil for laboratory test.
The team, headed by special secretary for health Dr Captain Abdul Majid, took the samples of ten-year-old substandard palm oil, stated to be hazardous for health by a court. The oil samples were taken in the presence of print and electronic media personnel besides officials of customs, HEJ, PCSIR and the city government, and sent for laboratory test.
Special secretary for health Dr Majid also seized the controversial palm oil tankers, earlier detained by custom officials at Port Qasim till the result of laboratory test.
Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Health Dr Saghir Ahmed said that the issue of controversial palm oil is directly related to the health, therefore, any negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.
Minister said that the results regarding laboratory tests of these samples would be made public in the presence of media.
It may be noted that a court had declared ten-year-old palm oil as hazardous for heath and directed heath department to conduct laboratory test of its samples.—Agencies
