Unilever call for certified sustainable palm oil
07/05/2008 (CS Asia) - Following a report from Greenpeace, Unilever has committed to using only palm oil from certified sustainable sources from the second half of this year. The Jakarta Post reports the key item for Indonesia - the supply angle - that Unilever chief executive Patrick Cescau said in a statement that "Suppliers need to move to meet the criteria, by getting certified both the palm oil from their own plantations and the palm oil they buy from elsewhere." Greenpeace want Unilever to work with the RSPO on this. As they say in Singapore 'so how'; or more appropriately in this case 'so when'?
