Cooking oil seized at Causeway
10/02/2008 (NST Online), Johor Baru - Oblivious to the ruling restricting 10 controlled items from being taken out of the country, the items, especially cooking oil, are still finding their way across the Causeway.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry enforcement division officers seized three bottles of 5kg cooking oil from three people heading for Singapore yesterday.
Enforcement officer Norasiah Mohd Afandi said many were not aware of the ruling prohibiting the items from being taken out of the country.
She said many of them thought and ruling only applied to palm oil-based cooking oil, when it also applied to other types of cooking oil with a mixture of palm oil.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shafie Apdal announced on Wednesday that 10 of the 20 controlled items had been prohibited from being taken out of the country.
They are sugar, chicken, wheat flour, cooking oil, cement and clinker (except with permits), petrol and all grades of spirit and gasoline for motors, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas, mild steel bars and fertilisers.
