Bid to smuggle 11,200kg of oil foiled
27/01/2008 (The Star Online), Batu Pahat - An attempt to smuggle out 11,200kg of cooking oil by a barter trader has been foiled at a private jetty near Minyak Beku.
The cooking oil, packed in 400 drums each weighing about 28kg and bound for Indonesia, were seized by police at 4pm yesterday.
Johor Ops Nyah Satu commanding officer Asst Supt Maizali Mohamad said five men, aged between 21 and 48, including an Indonesian, were detained.
He said police received a tip-off about the cooking oil and checked several jetties along Sungai Batu Pahat.
“We spotted a group of men unloading the containers of oil from two lorries onto the jetty.
“They were then to transfer about 400 containers onto a trawler,” he added.
