14/01/2008 (NST Online), Kuala Lumpur - Hoarders of cooking oil are being watched closely by the Consumer Affairs and Trade Ministry, which announced today that 12,825kg of cooking oil were seized since last week from 17 cases nationwide. The seizures were valued at RM37,707.
Consumer Affairs and Trade deputy minister Datuk S. Veerasingam warned retailers against hoarding cooking oil on the hope that prices will rise.

“There will be no price increase as far as this controlled item is concerned,” he said after opening a seminar today. “They cannot keep a control item and say they don’t have it. If they don’t display it or hide it behind the counter or store, we will charge them.”

Veerasingam also gave the assurance that there was enough cooking oil for the Chinese New Year as supply was adequate.
