25/08/2026 (Oils and Fats International) - The Malaysian state of Sarawak led crude palm oil (CPO) production growth in the country in 2025, DayakDaily reported.

Plantation and Commodities minister Dr Noraini Ahmad said CPO production in the state increased by 7.8% in 2025 compared to the previous year to 4.5M tonnes – 22.2% of total Malaysian output.

Productivity in Sarawak’s palm oil sector also showed positive development, with an increase in the oil extraction rate (OER) from 19.37% to 19.51%, while fresh fruit bunch (FFB) yields increased from 14.89 tonnes/ha to 15.98 tonnes/ha in 2025, she added.

“This increase in productivity is a very positive development because … these figures can translate into increased production and better returns for smallholders and plantation owners,” Ahmad was quoted as saying.

With an oil palm planted area of 1.66M ha, Sarawak has 84 palm oil mills with a capacity of 26.60M tonnes/year, as well as six palm oil refineries with a processing capacity of 2.60M tonnes/year, according to the 11 August report.

At the national level, Malaysia’s CPO production increased by 4.9% to 20.28M tonnes in 2025.

Together with the state of Sabah, with 1.5M ha of oil palm planted area, the two states accounted for 55.4% of the country’s total oil palm planted area.
