EU Palm Oil Imports Decline Year-on-Year
SunSir (28/04/2026) - According to EU data, the volume of EU palm oil imports for the 2025/26 marketing year has decreased by 6% year-on-year. As of April 19, 2026—within the 2024/25 marketing year (covering July to June of the following year)—the EU had imported 710,000 tonnes of palm oil from Indonesia, marking an 8.7% decline compared to the previous year. Consequently, Indonesia's share of the EU market fell from 31.8% to 31.0%.
The data indicates a 6% year-on-year reduction in total EU palm oil imports for the 2025/26 marketing year, alongside an 8.7% year-on-year drop in imports from Indonesia during the 2024/25 period, resulting in a market share contraction from 31.8% to 31.0%. This suggests a weakening of EU demand—potentially driven by sluggish consumption or competition from substitute products—which has heightened expectations of an oversupply in the palm oil spot market and subjected prices to downward pressure. Consequently, this exerts a generally bearish influence on palm oil spot prices.
