Sarawak palm oil producers report lower output

25/10/2025 (Sarawak Tribune), Kuching - Sarawak-listed oil palm companies have largely reported a sharp decline in the production volumes of fresh fruit bunches (FFB), crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel (PK) for the July to September 2025 period (3Q2025) compared with the same quarter a year ago.

In the quarter under review, Jaya Tiasa Holdings Bhd recorded a 23 per cent decrease in FFB volume to 264,540 tonnes (3Q2024: 343,397 tonnes), representing a reduction of 78,857 tonnes. CPO output fell by 15 per cent to 58,851 tonnes (69,463 tonnes), a drop of 10,612 tonnes, while PK production declined by 20 per cent to 12,764 tonnes (15,878 tonnes), down by 3,114 tonnes.

However, compared with the preceding quarter (2Q2025), all production figures for 3Q2025 showed double-digit growth in line with the peak cropping season.

The group’s FFB output rose by 22 per cent to 264,540 tonnes (2Q2025: 215,997 tonnes), an increase of 48,543 tonnes.

CPO production climbed by 20 per cent to 58,851 tonnes, up by 9,884 tonnes, while PK output increased by 18 per cent to 12,764 tonnes (10,810 tonnes), a gain of 1,945 tonnes.

For the nine-month period ended September 2025 (9M2025), Jaya Tiasa reported lower production volumes across all key indicators: FFB fell by 13% per cent to 690,995 tonnes (9M2024: 793,357 tonnes), CPO decreased by 6 per cent to 149,474 tonnes (158,474 tonnes), and PK dropped by 7 per cent to 33,154 tonnes (35,509 tonnes).

In September alone, the group’s production stood at 101,187 tonnes (FFB), 23,215 tonnes (CPO) and 5,150 tonnes (PK).

As at 30 June 2024, Jaya Tiasa’s total oil palm land bank amounted to 83,483 hectares across ten estates, with a total planted and mature area of 68,569 hectares.

The group currently owns and operates four CPO mills.

Year-on-year, Sarawak Oil Palms Bhd (SOP) reported a 5.58 per cent decline in FFB production to 320,052 tonnes in 3Q2025 (3Q2024: 338,984 tonnes).

CPO and PK outputs fell more sharply, by 14.61 per cent to 92,880 tonnes (108,757 tonnes) and 14.02 per cent to 20,056 tonnes (23,326 tonnes) respectively.

Compared with 2Q2025, FFB production increased by 5.03 per cent to 320,052 tonnes (2Q2025: 304,722 tonnes), while CPO output rose by 2.22 per cent to 92,881 tonnes (90,864 tonnes).

PK output, however, declined marginally by 0.32 per cent to 20,056 tonnes (20,120 tonnes).

For the nine-month period (9M2025), all production figures were lower year-on-year: FFB slipped by 0.4 per cent to 916,051 tonnes (9M2024: 919,764 tonnes), CPO fell by 10.14 per cent to 268,229 tonnes (298,483 tonnes), and PK dropped by 8.16 per cent to 58,634 tonnes (63,841 tonnes).

As at 31 December 2024, the Miri-based company had total oil palm plantation areas of 83,916 hectares, of which 72,582 hectares were categorised as mature.

WTK Holdings Bhd reported a modest increase in FFB production, rising by 2 per cent to 67,459 tonnes in 3Q2025 (3Q2024: 65,907 tonnes).

However, during the same period, CPO output fell by 14 per cent to 13,320 tonnes (15,476 tonnes), while PK volume declined by 15 per cent to 2,789 tonnes (3,300 tonnes).

Compared with 2Q2025, the group recorded a 2 per cent increase in FFB production to 67,459 tonnes (2Q2025: 66,363 tonnes), a 1 per cent rise in CPO output to 13,320 tonnes (13,137 tonnes), and a 6 per cent growth in PK output to 2,789 tonnes (2,622 tonnes).

For the nine months of 2025 (9M2025), WTK’s FFB production rose by 11 per cent to 195,149 tonnes (9M2024: 175,102 tonnes), an increase of 20,047 tonnes.

CPO production, however, fell by 8 per cent to 38,581 tonnes (41,900 tonnes), while PK production dipped by 10 per cent to 8,004 tonnes (8,882 tonnes).

In September, the group reported FFB production of 22,614 tonnes, CPO of 4,760 tonnes, and PK of 1,008 tonnes.

Following several acquisitions in recent years, WTK’s total oil palm plantation area expanded significantly to 20,824 hectares as at 31 December 2024 (FY2024), compared with 16,430 hectares in FY2023.

Approximately half of the group’s oil palm trees are categorised as being in their prime mature stage (9-14 years).
