USDA: September biodiesel exports up when compared to last year, imports down
06/11/2024 (Biodiesel Magazine) - The U.S. exported 67,975.3 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater in September, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on Nov. 5. Biodiesel imports were at 88,055.9 metric tons for the month.
The 67,975.3 metric tons of biodiesel exported in September was down when compared to the 81,957.1 metric tons exported the previous month, but up when compared to the 57,739.5 metric tons exported in September of last year.
The U.S. exported biodiesel to approximately six countries in September. Canada was the top destination for U.S. biodiesel exports at 62,392.9 metric tons, followed by Peru at 5,026.8 metric tons and Singapore at 361.1 metric tons.
The value of U.S. biodiesel exports reached $99.95 million in September, down from both $110.81 million in August and $102.9 million in September 2023.
Total U.S. biodiesel exports for the first nine months of 2024 reached 530,423.2 metric tons at a value of $743.16 million, compared to 699,887.7 metric tons exported during the same period of last year at a value of $1.22 billion.
The 88,055.9 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater imported in September was up when compared to the 80,543.6 metric tons imported in August but down when compared to the 183,451.7 metric tons imported in September 2023.
The U.S. imported biodiesel from approximately eight countries in September. Canada was the top source of U.S. biodiesel imports during the month at 34,950.3 metric tons, followed by Germany at 24,917.1 metric tons and Spain at 18,019 metric tons.
The value of U.S. biodiesel imports reached $117.08 million in September, up from $104.75 million the previous month, but down significantly from $300.51 million in September of last year.
Total U.S. biodiesel imports for the first nine months of this year reached 1.15 million metric tons at a value of $1.58 billion, compared to 1.22 million metric tons imported during the same period of last year at a value of $2.08 billion.
