Govt to procure 5.5m litres of soybean oil

20/10/2024 (Dhaka Tribune) - The government on Sunday approved separate proposals for procuring approximately 5.5 million litres of soybean oil and 150,000 tons of fertilizer to meet the growing demand in the country.

The Adviser's Council Committee on Government Procurement (ACCGP) gave the approval during its eighth meeting, chaired by the Finance Adviser of the interim government, Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.

The ACCGP meeting, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat, also approved a total of five proposals, according to documents provided by the Ministry of Finance.

Following three separate proposals from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will procure 120,000 tons of DAP fertilizer from three companies based in China, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia under state-level agreements, with a total cost of around Tk872.52 crore.

The three companies involved are Banyan International Trading Limited of China, OCP of Morocco, and MA’ADEN of Saudi Arabia.

In response to another proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will procure 30,000 tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer under the fourth lot for the current fiscal year (FY24) from SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia, at a cost of around Tk129.35 crore, with each ton priced at $359.33.

Additionally, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce, the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will procure 5.5 million litres of soybean oil using the local Open Tender Method (OTM) from City Edible Oil Limited, at a cost of around Tk86.84 crore, with each litre priced at Tk157.90.
