WFP: 6,164 tonnes of flour, 765 tonnes of sunflower oil to be transferred to Gaza Strip under Grain from Ukraine
22/07/2024 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The UN World Food Programme (WFP) intends to continue supplying agricultural products to the Gaza Strip within the Grain from Ukraine program, WFP Deputy Director Marianne Ward said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine. She said WFP recently sent 1,000 tonnes of flour from Ukraine to this region.
The WFP deputy director said deliveries will continue: within several months, some 6,164 tonnes of wheat flour and 765 tonnes of sunflower oil will be sent.
According to her information, WFP purchases wheat from Ukrainian suppliers, processes it into flour, and then directly supplies it to trusted bakeries with which it has been cooperating for a long time. Bread is baked there and distributed to people in the Gaza Strip who find themselves on the brink of famine due to the conflict.
As reported, WFP, as part of Grain from Ukraine, since the opening of the ports of Odesa, has sent 25 ships with 160,000 tonnes of agricultural products and fed 12 million people.
