EPA: 2.04 Billion RINs Generated Under RFS In June

19/07/2024 (Biodiesel Magazine) - Nearly 2.04 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in June, down slightly from 2.06 billion generated during the same month of last year, according to data released by the U.S. EPA on July 18. Total RIN generation for the first half of 2024 reached 12.07 billion, up from 11.43 billion generated during the same period of last year.

More than 74.7 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in June, including 66.79 million generated for compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) by domestic producers, 3.45 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, 2.72 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 1.48 million generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers, and 264,239 generated for compressed RNG by importers.

Total D3 RIN generation for the first half of 2024 reached 369.45 million. That volume includes 329.56 million generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers, 16.57 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, 15.55 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 5.25 million generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers, and 2.52 million generated for compressed RNG by importers.

Nearly 734.68 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in June, including 376.25 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 199.33 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers 92.79 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 56.27 million generated for biodiesel by importers, 5.23 million generated for renewable jet fuel by foreign entities, and 4.8 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.

Total D4 RIN generation for the first six months of the year reached 4.33 billion. That volume includes 2.33 billion generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 1.18 billion generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 365.13 million generated for biodiesel by importers, 372.26 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 61.14 million generated for renewable jet fuel by foreign entities, and 21.3 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.

More than 14.08 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in June, including 5.04 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 6.09 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 2.21 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 623,806 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, and 113,403 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.

Total D5 RIN generation for the first half of the year reached 90.84 million. That volume includes 38.65 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 34.31 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 14.39 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 2.13 million generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, 991,034 generated for LPG by domestic producers, and 368,889 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.

More than 1.21 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in June, including 1.2 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 3.48 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 3.41 million generated for biodiesel by importers, and 1.18 million generated for ethanol by importers.

Total D6 RIN generation for the first six months of 2024 reached 7.28 billion. That volume includes 7.25 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 11.01 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 9.35 million generated for biodiesel by importers, 6.91 million generated for ethanol by importers, 3.93 million generated for renewable gasoline by domestic producers, 250,191 generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, and 64,809 generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.

According to the EPA, 24,011 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in June, all for cellulosic heating oil by importers. Total D7 RIN generation for the first half of 2024 reached 192,172, all of which were generated for cellulosic heating oil by importers.
