13/07/2024 (The Star), IPOH - In order to purchase the 1kg subsidised cooking oil packets, customers visiting a sundry shop in Alor Pongsu, Parit Buntar, have been required to buy other items first.

This condition, imposed by the shop owner, led to a raid by the Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry after customer complaints.

Its director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said that on Thursday (July 12) at about 10.30am, a team of officers carried out investigations under “Ops Samar” at the sundry shop and found the allegations to be true.

“The shop owner indeed imposed such a condition, requiring customers to purchase other items at his shop before they were allowed to buy the subsidised cooking oil.

“Our officers entered the premises, inspected the storage room and sales rack, and found 164kg of cooking oil packets that were later confiscated,” he said in a statement on Saturday (July 13).

Kamalludin added that the premises owner was issued an instruction to declare stock under Section 8 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

“The case will be investigated accordingly, and I would like to warn that the ministry will not compromise with those found involved in such illegal activities,” he added.

He said anyone with such information can report it to the ministry through WhatsApp at 019-279 4317, its portal at http://e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my, the call centre at 1-800-866-800, or its mobile app, "Ez Adu KPDN".
