02/04/2024 (Verdict Food Service) - Restaurant Technologies has announced a significant milestone in sustainability by recycling and converting more than 314 million pounds (mlb) of used cooking oil (UCO) into renewable diesel or biodiesel in 2023.

Working in partnership with Chevron Renewable Energy Group, the company ensures that 100% of the UCO collected is transformed into renewable diesel or biodiesel.

The initiative has prevented 26.7mlb of waste and saved eight million cubic feet of landfill space.

By replacing traditional petroleum diesel with renewable alternatives, the company has facilitated a reduction in petroleum diesel usage of more than 40 million gallons and avoided one billion pounds of CO₂ emissions.

This exceeds its previous record, set in 2022, and underscores its commitment to aiding its 40,000 global customers, which include McDonald’s and Shake Shack, in meeting their environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals.

Beyond the restaurant sector, Restaurant Technologies has clientele in the foodservice industries, including grocery stores, convenience stores, college and university campuses, casinos, golf courses and lodging and hospitality establishments.

Restaurant Technologies’s ESG committee general counsel and chair Diana Geseking said: “Sustainability is at the core of Restaurant Technologies, and creating a better world for all of us to live in is a foundational part of our values.

“We are grateful for our renewable energy partners, and our diverse customer base across industries who share our commitment to sustainability. With their continued support, we look to build upon our success and reach new heights in the years ahead.”
