14/03/2024 (Daily Express), Sandakan - Consumers in this district can get subsidised cooking oil packets from the cashier counter at selected retail outlets.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sandakan Branch took the approach to ensure that all consumers would get a fair supply.

Sandakan KPDN Chief Enforcement Officer Azdy Zukkry John said they made early arrangements to address subsidised cooking oil supply issues before the festive season, rather than during Ramadan.

He said that one of the approaches taken was to advise the selected retailers to display their cooking oil and sugar supplies at the cashier’s counter to discourage repeat purchases by customers.

“These premises were also directed to display notifications noting that cooking oil and sugar are available at the cashier counter.

“In addition, the KPDN has instructed enforcement officers at the selected supermarkets to ensure there is no panic buying among consumers,” he said in a statement here, recently.

He said the retailers were selected based on their financial ability and storage capacity under KPDN’s Scheduled Controlled Goods Licence (CSA Licence).

“There are outlets with a storage restriction of only 500kg specified on their licence.

“Daily monitoring of these selected supermarkets will be done to ensure supplies are not interrupted.

“A WhatsApp group has been set up, and District Selected Retailers must report supply status daily,” he said.

Consumers in Sandakan are advised to avoid panic buying and to report illegal activity involving controlled items.
