Edible oil price to be fixed tomorrow
18/2/2024 (Bangladesh Post), The government has decided to fix the price of edible oil tomorrow while it has also a plan to reduce the prices of other essential commodities ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu made the disclosure while talking to reporters at his secretariat office on Sunday.
“We will fix price of edible oil first. We will adjust the price of edible oil first. Later, the price of date and other essentials will be fixed after holding meeting with other ministries concerned, he said.
Ahsanul Islam Titu also said that his ministry will sit with the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) and with Agriculture and Food Ministry to take decision on the price of sugar and agricultural products.
According to the commerce ministry sources, the country has an import demand for 50,000 tonnes of
onion and one lakh tonnes of sugar.
Ahsanul Islam Titu said that out of the total, 20,000 tonnes of onion and 50,000 tonnes of sugar are likely to be imported from India.”
“We hope to get a good news by Thursday regarding the import of onion and sugar from India and the we will let you know the date of importing the two items,” the state minister said.
He said that strict measures will be taken with the help of law enforcement agencies to prevent extortion from goods-laden vehicles. Transport fare will be decided if necessary to keep the market of daily necessities stable ahead of Ramadan.
The state minster also said that the prices of daily commodities will be fixed soon. We will also fix transport fare of essential items.
He said that any person can file a complaint if the price of the specified product is higher than the fixed rate. Filing of complaints by calling 333 number will start within a week.
