Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion Council names new CEO

 3/2/2006  (India Infoline) - Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion Council (MPOPC) on Thursday announcd that YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Dr Yusof Basiron, a seasoned captain with extensive experience in the palm oil industry has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of MPOPC, effective January 19, 2006.

Prior to accepting the position at MPOPC, YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Dr.Yusof Basiron served as Director-General of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board. YBhg Tan Sri graduated in 1972 in Chemical Engineering from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and has also studied rubber technology in the U.K. Later YBhg Tan Sri obtained Masters Degree in Industrial Management ( ME) and Business Administration ( MBA) in Belgium.

YBhg Tan Sri completed his Phd in Applied Economics and Management Science from the University of Stirling, Scotland in 1986. YBhg Tan Sri is a fellow member of the Malaysian Scientific Association ( MSA) , Malaysian Oil Scientists’ and Technologists’ Association ( MOSTA) and Academy of Sciences Malaysia ( ASM) . Y Bhg Tan Sri is also a member of the National Science and Research Development Council of Malaysia and was involved in the preparation of the National Science Policy II and the National Bio fuel Policy.

YBhg Tan Sri has received Federal Awards Darjah Johan Manku Negara (JMN), Darjah Yang Mulia Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) and Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) for his services.

YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Dr.Yusof Basiron brings over 27 years of relevant industry experience. Being at the helm of affairs at the MPOB for 14 years, his forte’ includes the technical aspects of production, processing and marketing of palm oil and its derivatives. YBhg Tan Sri’s track record in the palm oil industry is outstanding. In particular, YBhg Tan Sri brings a great understanding of the palm oil industry and its evolving needs.

At MPOPC, he will be responsible to help enhance the image of palm oil products, increase their export markets and sales, and respond to any market and image problems relating to palm oil industry.
