09/11/2023 (Daily Express), Semporna - The Marine Police Force (MPF) foiled an attempt to smuggle out 4,216kg of cooking oil via the waters off here on Tuesday.

Sabah (Region Four) MPF Commander ACP Ahmad Ariffin said a team on “Op Taring Gelora” duties spotted a suspicious boat abandoned in the mangrove areas off Tobo-Tobo waters around 4pm off.

“The team approached the boat and upon inspection, found 4,216kg of cooking oil in packets hidden in the boat.

“The subsidised cooking oil are believed to be smuggled out to a neighbouring country,” he said, adding the seized items were taken to the Semporna MPF base for further action.

According to Ahmad Ariffin, the seized cooking oil was estimated worth RM10,540 and RM76,004 including the boat and engine.

He said the seized items was later referred to the Semporna Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) for further investigation and action under the Control of Supply Act 1961.
