Prices of edible oil, red lentil rise
02/12/2022 (New Age) - The prices of edible oil and red lentil increased on the kitchen markets in the Dhaka city while other essential commodities, including rice, atta and sugar, remained pricey over the week.
Traders said that the prices of edible oil and red lentil went up on the wholesale market.
Although the refiners and the government on November 11 set the price of unpackaged sugar for Tk 102 a kilogram and packaged item for Tk 108 a kilogram, the commodity was sold for Tk 110-115 a kilogram in the city on Friday, retailers said.
The price of edible oil increased by Tk 5-8 a litre over the week in the city.
Packaged soya bean oil sold for Tk 190 a litre and that of unpackaged soya bean oil for Tk 180 a litre on Friday.
A five-litre container of soya bean oil sold for Tk 900- 925 on the day.
Palm oil sold for Tk 135-145 a kilogram in the city on Friday.
The prices of red lentil increased by Tk 5 a kilogram over the week and the coarse variety sold for Tk 110–115 a kilogram and the medium-quality variety for Tk 125–130 a kilogram on Friday.
The fine variety of red lentil sold for Tk 140 a kilogram on the day.
The prices of rice and atta remained high over the week in the city.
The coarse variety of rice sold for Tk 50–55 a kilogram in the capital on Friday.
The medium-quality variety of rice sold for Tk 58–62 a kilogram while the BR-28 variety, also known as a lower-grade Miniket, retailed at Tk 62–65 a kilogram.
The fine-variety of Miniket sold for Tk 70–80 a kilogram and Najirshail for Tk 80–90 a kilogram on the day.
Unpackaged atta sold for Tk 64–65 a kilogram while packaged atta sold for Tk 70–75 a kilogram in the city on Friday.
The prices of imported onions increased by Tk 5 a kilogram over the week and the local variety of onions sold for Tk 40–50 a kilogram while the imported variety sold for Tk 45–50 a kilogram in the capital on Friday.
The prices of winter vegetables decreased a little as the supply of winter vegetables increased on the market.
Aubergine sold for Tk 40–60 a kilogram, papaya for Tk 20–30 a kilogram, bitter gourd for Tk 60–70 a kilogram, bottle gourd for Tk 40–60 apiece, beans for Tk 50-60 a kilogram, cauliflower for Tk 30-40 apiece, cucumber for Tk 40–60 a kilogram, pointed gourd for Tk 40-50 a kilogram, potatoes for Tk 25–30 a kilogram, carrot for Tk 70–80 a kilogram and tomatoes for Tk 100–110 a kilogram on Friday.
Green chillies sold for Tk 50–70 a kilogram in the city on Friday.
The price of broiler chicken remained unchanged and the item sold for Tk 150–160 a kilogram on the day.
Sonalika variety of chicken sold for Tk 280–290 a kilogram and the local variety for Tk 530–550 a kilogram on Friday.
The price of eggs also remained unchanged and the item sold for Tk 40–42 a hali (four pieces) on the markets in the city on Friday.
Rohita sold for Tk 340–400 a kilogram and Katla for Tk 320–380 a kilogram, depending on size and quality.
Pangas sold for Tk 180–190 a kilogram and Tilapia for Tk 150-170 a kilogram.
Beef sold for Tk 680–720 a kilogram while mutton sold for Tk 900–950 a kilogram on Friday.
The local variety of garlic sold for Tk 80–100 a kilogram while the imported one sold for Tk 120–140 a kilogram on the day.
Ginger sold for Tk 120–130 a kilogram and the local variety for Tk 150–160 a kilogram on the day.
Fine-quality packaged salt retailed at Tk 38–40 a kilogram and the coarse variety at Tk 20–25 a kilogram.
