Chinese company Grand Oils & Fats gets palm oil certification
30/11/2022 (Free Malaysia Today), Petaling Jaya - Grand Oils & Fats (Dongguan) Co Ltd of China has been awarded the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MPSO) supply chain certification standard, making it the first company outside Malaysia to have been given the honour.
Grand Oils & Fats is an edible oil processing company and one of the leaders in the plant-based oils and fats industry in China.
In a statement issued to the media today, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) director-general Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir said the MPOB’s palm oil research and technical services institute had initiated and facilitated the engagement with the Chinese company in December last year.
This led to the award of the certification to the Chinese company by Bureau Veritas Certification (M) Sdn Bhd. Bureau Veritas is an accredited certification body under the MSPO certification scheme.
“Grand Oils & Fats can now confidently and credibly provide products made from sustainably produced palm oil to their clients and end users all around the world,” Ahmad Parveez said.
MSPO standards complement the UN sustainable development (SDG) goals 2030 especially on responsible consumption and production, decent work and economic growth, life on land, zero hunger and climate change.
China has historically and regularly sourced its palm products from Malaysia. This is demonstrated by the fact that exports of Malaysian palm products to China have tripled from 1.02 million tonnes in 2000 to 3.13 million tonnes in 2021.
