Higher Cargo Handling Capacity By Johor Ports

JOHOR BAHARU, June 18 (Bernama) -- Cargo handling by Pasir Gudang Portand the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas or PTP) inJohor is expected to rise in line with the accelerated development ofseveral projects to raise their operating capacity this year.

Johor Port Berhad (JPB), the operator of Pasir Gudang Port in south-eastJohor, is in the process of implementing projects to facilitatewarehousing and palm oil storage in the port limits, while PTP isincreasing its berthing facilities by another eight wharves from thisyear.

JPB, which was formed after the setting up of the Johor Port Board(Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor) in January 1993, is expected to handle 28.7million freightweight tons (fwt) of cargo this year after havingdemonstrated its ability to handle 24.5 million fwt last year. -- BERNAMA
