VEGOILS-Rival soy helps palm oil notch longest winning streak in nearly 19 years
16.03.2021 (www.todayonline.com) - KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 - Malaysian palm oil futures climbed on Tuesday for a 10th straight day, the longest consecutive daily gain since June 2002, tracking strength in rival edible soyoil while improving March export numbers also lifted market sentiment.
The benchmark palm oil contract for June delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange gained 17 ringgit, or 0.42%, to 4,037 ringgit ($981.76) a tonne during early trade.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Exports of Malaysian palm oil products for March 1-15 fell 1% to 549,273 tonnes from the same period in February, but slower than an 18% monthly decline during March 1-10, according to data by Societe Generale de Surveillance.
* European Union palm oil imports in the 2020/21 season that started last July reached 3.87 million tonnes, compared with 4.01 million a year ago, data published by the European Commission showed on Monday.
* Dalian's most-active soyoil contract rose 1%, while its palm oil contract gained 0.5%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade were up 0.4%.
* Palm oil is affected by price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market.
* Palm oil may drop into a range of 3,959 ringgit to 4,008 ringgit per tonne, as it has left a rising channel, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said.
MARKET NEWS
* Asian stocks were set to open higher on Tuesday after Wall Street's main indexes closed at record highs and investors awaited comments from the U.S. central bank's meeting later this week.
