India's Edible Oil Industry Views At Collaborative

NEW DELHI, Dec 13 (Bernama) -- India's edible oil industry is to explorethe possibilities of collaboration with Malaysian Palm Oil PromotionCouncil (MPOPC) in the field of technology transfer and joint ventures inpalm cultivation and processing.

A 24-member delegation of the Solvent Extractors' Association of India(SEA) is leaving for Kuala Lumpur on December 18 for a six-day visit atthe invitation of MPOPC to explore the possibilities of such acollaboration.

The delegation, which will be led by SEA President, Bipin V. Patel andSandeep Bajoria, immediate past president, will also explore thepossibility of importing palm kernal cake for processing in India,according to a report in the business daily, Financial Express.

The MPOPC office here confirmed the visit of the delegation, but wereunable to provide details.

The possibilities of enhancing mutual cooperation and exchange ofinformation among Malaysian palm oil producers and exporters and Indianimporters, refiners and processors will also be discussed, the reportsaid.

The delegation comprises members of the association from all parts of thecountry representing palm oil processors (refiners), vanaspati(hydrogenated vegetable oil) manufacturers, solvent extractors, palm oilkernel processors, cattle feed manufacturers, edible oil importers,international commodity traders, brokers and indenters and technocratsrepresenting a wide spectrum of the Indian vegetable oil industry.

The delegation will discuss matters of mutual interest with leadingMalaysian vegetable oil organisations and associations and also plan tomeet senior government officials.-- BERNAMA
