Wee: What’s being done to clear debts of Felda settlers?
27 Mar 2019 (The Star Online) MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) (BN-Ayer Hitam) has questioned the government on measures taken to help Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlers clear their outstanding debts due to the fluctuating share prices of Felda Global Ventures (FGV) Holdings Bhd.
“Since FGV is so dependent on the price of palm oil, what are the measures taken by the Economic Affairs Ministry to ensure that the settlers will have a bright future?
“What is being done to help settlers deal with their outstanding debts and what about other promises made by the new government to help them?” he asked during Question Time.
In response, Deputy Economic Affairs Minister Senator Dr Radzi Jidin said: “Since mid-2018, a recovery plan has been in place to turn around FGV through three major phases – reshuffling board members and top management, an operation transformation plan and rationalisation of non-core businesses.“
More details will be disclosed when a White Paper is tabled in this parliament meeting,” he said.
