The Edge Markets (08/01/2019) - KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 8): Malaysia’s Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will write to his counterparts in France and Norway to address proposed restrictions on palm oil usage in biofuel and palm oil imports, according to Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok.

* Anti-palm oil campaign and ban on palm oil would affect bilateral trade relations between Malaysia and the EU countries involved, Kok says in Kuala Lumpur

* It’s unfair to Malaysia for Europe to restrict palm oil imports; Europe is 3rd biggest export market for Malaysian palm oil

* Malaysia will have inter-ministry meetings with trade and foreign ministries to address issues on palm oil restrictions

* Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries, whose members include Malaysia, Indonesia and Colombia will meet next month and cooperate on measures to address the restrictions
