Minimum Production Quota Set For Primary Commoditi

AYER TAWAR (Perak), June 16 (Bernama) -- The Primary Industries Ministryhas set a minimum production quota for primary commodities to help rubber,oil palm and cocoa smallholders earn good income, Minister Datuk Seri DrLim Keng Yaik said Sunday.He said smallholders and government agencies like Risda, Felda and Felcrashould abide by the quota as it was a productive production capacity.

The quota was set for rubber, palm oil and cocoa to ensure the industrieswould not be severely hit should the price drop, he said.

"The ministry has fixed 20 tonnes of oil palm be produced for one hectarea year with 20 per cent palm oil.

"This means they will produce four tonnes of palm oil for one hectare in ayear while for rubber and cocoa, they need to produce 900kg per hectare ayear, he told reporters after opening the Gerakan Beruas divisiondelegates conference.
