Indonesian palm oil exports dropped in May –survey
06.07.2018 (Reuters) - JAKARTA, July 6 (Reuters) - Exports of palm oil from Indonesia, the world's top producer of the commodity used to churn out items ranging from chocolate to shampoo, fell in May from the month before, a Reuters survey showed.
Shipments declined to 2.60 million tonnes in May, from 2.65 million tonnes in April, according to the median results of a survey of two industry groups and a state palm oil research firm.
Production climbed to around 3.75 million tonnes in May, from 3.65 million tonnes in April, the survey showed.
The Indonesia Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) reported 2.22 million tonnes of exports in April, down nearly 14 percent from
a year earlier. Its figures often differ from numbers given by respondents in the regular Reuters survey.
GAPKI's data on May exports in not yet available.
Domestic use of the vegetable oil was seen at 989,900 tonnes in May, compared to 1 million tonnes a month before, according to the survey, which was carried over the last few weeks.
Meanwhile, palm oil stocks were estimated at 3.68 million tonnes at the end of May, up from 3.55 million tonnes at the same time the month before.
