European vegoils-Palm oil tracks CBOT soyoil higher
01/11/2017 (Times of India) - ROTTERDAM, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Palm oil on the European vegetable oils market was offered firmer on Wednesday, tracking gains in Malaysian palm oil futures and because of strength in rival CBOT soyoil.
Business was slow overall due to limited participation because of holidays in parts of Europe.
Asking prices for palm oil were mostly between $2.50 and $15 a tonne higher after Malaysian palm oil futures closed between 13 and 23 ringgit per tonne down, partly supported by recent strength in energy markets, which could boost demand from biodiesel producers.
"Although palm oil rose, there is doubt this rise will hold because production is expected to rise, while demand in winter time usually slows down," one broker said.
At 1730 GMT CBOT soyoil futures were between 0.09 and 0.11 cents per lb up, tracking technical buying in Chicago soybean futures. A dip in energy markets limited gains.
Nearby EU rapeoil continued firm, on the back of technical demand from shorts, and deferred material also gained as players rolled forward positions and due to strength in both Chicago soyoil futures and European rapeseed futures. Sellers offered material between four and 10 euros per tonne higher.
Lauric oils were offered between unchanged and $45 a tonne down in a bid to attract buyers, but they remained scarce. The spread between coconut oil and cheaper palmkernel oil was $120 a tonne for November/December shipment. EUROPEAN VEG OILS TRADES
