26/05/2017 (Bernama) - Three new board members have been appointed to help restore the faith of the people, especially the stakeholders, in Felda, the Federal Land Development Authority.

Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said the three are Malaysian Palm Oil Board director general Dr Kushairi Din, Felda woman settler icon Ramlah Jailani and former general manager Datuk Zulkifli Wahab.

They were appointed with the approval of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last Tuesday.

"The three of them are experienced individuals. I hope with these appointments, the respect of the people, especially stakeholders, will be restored," he said in his speech during the D'Saji Ramadan buffet launch here today.

Shahrir also said that various activities had been carried out, such as the integrity pledge, to fight corruption.

"The support from the people, especially at the grass root level, is important for us. Over the past four years, Felda has been through a lot, including being involved in a corruption scandal. Its image and reputation were tarnished and the public, as well as the settlers themselves, have begun doubting Felda," he said.

Shahrir cited the arrest of five Felda officials by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, including its former deputy director, relating to a sturgeon fish rearing project worth about RM47.6mil to be one reason for the decline in trust in Felda.

"This situation has put Felda in a disfficult place. We have to do something to restore Felda's tarnished reputation and integrity," he added.

With the appointment of the three new board members, Felda now has 12 directors.
