25/05/2017 (Bernama) - Felda Global Ventures Holding Berhad (FGV) has rented out 125 hectares of its land in Felda Palong 21 here to Syarikat C Senhuat Sdn Bhd which will use it to implement a watermelon farming project.

Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad said it was a sideline project for oil palm plantations which are undergoing replanting process.

"This is a pilot project, but it will give an opportunity to Felda settlers to earn extra income.

"We are renting out the land at RM100 per acre per year for a duration of two years. This move will also enable FGV to save cost of maintenance," he told reporters after launching the project here today.

Mohd Isa, however, stressed that the project was not a new business venture for FGV as the company was merely renting out its land to the company to grow watermelon for the benefit of the settlers.

He said the project was expected to produce 10,750 tonnes of yields each season, which would be sold in local and international markets.
