Iran Eager to Increase CPO Imports From Indonesia

14/04/2017 (Netralnews) - Iranian companies and industries have expressed eagerness to buy more Indonesian crude palm oil (CPO) during a video conference between palm oil associations of the two countries, the Directorate of South and Central Asia of the Foreign Ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran held the video conference between the Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (GAPKI) and the Iranian Palm Oil Association, the directorate stated in a press statement released on Thursday.

At the video conference, Iran expressed hope that Indonesia will continue to export palm oil to Iran due to rising demand from various sectors in Iran, including the industrial sector.

For its part, GAPKI and its Iranian counterpart have agreed to continuously discuss technical aspects of palm oil export and import in the near future.

The video conference between GAPKI and its Iranian counterpart held in late March is part of Indonesian government's effort to encourage its palm oil to potential markets.Iran is a potential market for Indonesian palm oil. It needs some 500 thousand metric tons of palm oil per year.

In addition to meeting Iran's demand, the Indonesian palm oil will also be marketed to neighboring countries such as Iraq, Syria, as well as to Commonwealth of Independent States such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
