06/04/2017 (Tempo.co) - Central Kalimantan Regional Secretary Official, Syahrin Daulay, revealed that the problem of palm oil field owners who refuse to give a 15 x 15 meters of their land for the transmission towers construction of the state-owned electricity company PT PLN has not been complete up until now. The problem has been ongoing since 2011.

The government has requested the construction to continue since electricity is a strategic program for the people’s livelihood, Syahrin said.

“If the electricity network isn’t established, the energy surplus produced from the gas-fueled power plant located in North Barito District and the thermal power plant in Pisang Island cannot be delivered. Meanwhile, many other districts are currently electricity-deprived,” Syahrin said.

“Last Monday, Governor Sugianto Sabran had already signed a letter directed to the [palm oil] business owners, ordering them to give up parts of their land for the tower’s construction,” he explained.

Syahrin said that palm oil field owners refuse to give-up their land since they have obtained their Cultivation Rights (HGU) and their lands are currently in production.

“Actually, PLN will compensate them if the tower does actually pass their field that’s already been cultivated,” he explained.

PLN also promised that the tower constructions, if they do continue, will be completed within five-month, including the wires installment.
